The 95% Assignment

Around 2:01 AM EST, I received an e-mail from one of my instructors. It simply stated that the grades for the first assignment were posted and that my personal evaluation was attached.

I was nervous to open it. Literally sweating. Maybe it’s just because I was holding Dalton and trying to feed him and read at the same time, haha.

Anyway. I open up the attached document and what do I see? One point was taken off because I didn’t format my paper to Verdana, 9 point.

Are you serious? A 95% because of one silly mistake? I e-mailed him back. He was probably wondering why I was up so late or maybe wondering why I was questioning my 95% paper.

E-mail to Instructor:

Hi

You’re really going to take away one point because I forgot to format it to Verdana 9 point? :-/

I don’t want to sound like some crazy student obsessed with her grades, but I don’t let little things like this quit bothering me and then I get stressed out about it and do worse on future assignments. Basically, I’m a perfectionist. I thought we got extra points for turning it in early? Or is that just the Web Tech Program Orientation?

Is there any way I can get that point back so my grade won’t be a 95%?
:(

Sincerely,
Kerri deMendonca

Hell yeah I was going to try and get that point back! Like the e-mail says, I’m a perfectionist. I mean, to the point where I don’t trust anyone to do things correctly at home. I have to do it myself.

So he e-mailed me back telling me that there are bonus points on future assignments and tons of ways I can make over 100% in the class overall.

That’s nice. That’s wonderful, actually. But he’s not a perfectionist.

In a perfectionist’s eyeballs, no matter if we made 110% in the class overall, that 95% is still there and that is indeed not perfect.

Call me crazy. I don’t care. I just want 100% on that paper.

Stupid, Verdana! I knew you were trouble since the day I met you 10-years ago!
